I
am concerned about the interchangeability of modern cityscapes.
Architecture's loss of character, caused by functionalism and
commercialism, has alienated its inhabitants. The main aim of my
work is to resensibilise the viewer for his “all too well known”
environment. Nature has been degraded to street decoration and is no
longer seen as man’s vital partner. City monuments and historical
buildings are restored to become sterile tourist attractions. Devoid
of everyday life, they encourage a yearning for the illusory “good
old days”. Without a real understanding of the past we have no
future. I transport my visual ideas by changing photographs of real
situations. Exaggerating formal aspects or spatial characteristics
of a place often suggests new possibilities and bring it back into
our consciousness."
